An exhibit by six noted realist painters is on display beginning Oct. 4 at the Piedmont College Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art in Demorest.
Titled "Focus on Realism," the show is designed to introduce students and art enthusiasts to content, technique, and practices in the world of Realism, said museum director Daniel White. The 11 large-scale paintings are by six artists represented by the M Gallery in Charleston, S.C., and at the Principle Gallery in Alexandria, Va.
Artists featured in the show include Anthony Ackrill, Matthew Almy, Ryan S. Brown, Sergio Roffo, Lynn Sanguedolce, and John C. Traynor
"After meeting with Michele Ward and seeing the artists she represents, I felt a strong urgency that this work needs to be seen by our students," White said. "The work is outstanding not only in its execution and content, but these techniques are Old World practices that have to be painstakingly sought out and learned from other artists. The purpose of this show is to reinforce that this kind of work is still being done. In the vast realm of the art world today, I find it reassuring that true realism is still very much alive. It is important that our students see this work, because the Classics are often disregarded while fads are embraced."
