Maryville Wins Conference Championship & Automatic Qualification
To NCAA National Championship Tournament
The
Maryville College volleyball team earned its fifth straight Great South
Athletic Conference championship this afternoon with a 30-28, 30-17,
28-30, and 30-22 victory over third-seeded and tournament host Piedmont
College. The top-seeded Lady Scots earn the conference's first-ever
automatic qualification into the 2006 NCAA Division-III National Championship
Tournament by virtue of the confernce tournament championship.
Maryville's Jennifer Seivers was voted the Tournament's Most Valuable
Player.
The loss ends Piedmont's season with a 23-12 overall record while Maryville
moves to 25-11 overall.
The NCAA will announce the complete bracket for the Division-III National
Championship Tournament on Monday, November 6th at 11:00 AM with opening-round
regionals set for November 9-11 at various on-campus sites.
