GABCA Announces First Ever Senior Showcase Game In Conjunction With 2nd Annual Spring Coaches Social

he 2nd Annual GABCA Coaches Spring Social will be held in conjunction with the Southeast Basketball Academy's Atlanta All-Star Shootout on Saturday, March 27th at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. The event ends at around 5:00 PM.  Following the event will be the 2nd Annual GABCA Coaches Social and the first-ever GABCA Senior Showcase game.  More details about the Senior Showcase game are forthcoming.   The game will feature seniors from the association's membership.

GABCA Coaches Pass Information For 2009 Deep South Classic
The 19th Annual Deep South Classic Holiday High School Basketball Tournament will be held on December 28-30, 2009.  The 16-team, 3-day boys and girls high school tournament will be held at Brookwood High School in Snellville, GA. The participating teams, schedules and brackets are posted on the website at www.DeepSouthClassic.com . Also, again this year the tournament will have the “Top Prospects of the 2009 Deep South Classic” posted online. To gain access to the website at the College Coaches’ Corner and to receive your printable College Coach’s Pass to all the games GABCA coaches are asked to email Les Witmer (Tournament Director) at lawitmer@comcast.net for an ID and password.

GABCA Set To Host 2009 Fall Coaches Social/Chalk Talk
The Georgia Basketball Coaches Association is set to host its 2009 Fall Coaches Social and Chalk Talk in conjunction with the Southeast Basketball Academy's Atlanta All-Star Shootout at Oglethorpe University on Saturday, September 19th, 2009.  The second annual GABCA event will gather at Galla's Pizza which is located less than a mile from OU's campus.  Coaches that have paid for 2009-10 membership dues will be able to indulge in all-you-can-eat pizza and wings and non-alcoholic beverages as part of their membership package.

GABCA Releases 2008-2009 Year-End All-State Awards
The Georgia Basketball Coaches Association has released its 2008-2009 All-State awards with the honors expanding to cover three divisions (NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and a combined division of NAIA/Junior Colleges).  The awards feature a Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year for each division in addition to a five-player All-State team.  The GABCA also recognizes an Honorable Mention All-State team as well as honoring 63 student-athletes as GABCA All-Academic selections.

GABCA Sets Date For Spring 2009 Coaches Social/Chalk Talk Dinner

The 1st Annual GABCA Coaches Spring Social/Chalk Talk will be held in conjunction with the Southeast Basketball Academy's Atlanta All-Star Shootout on Saturday, March 21st at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. The event ends at around 6:00 PM, and we will have our social at Galla's Pizza located just a half mile from OU's campus.  We will meet 15 minutes after the SEBA event is over.  All-you-can-eat wings and pizza and non-alcoholic beverages are covered with membership dues.

Augusta State Run Falls Short In NCAA Division-II National Championship Game
Georgia Basketball Coaches Association member Dip Metress and his Augusta State University men's basketball team fell just short this afternoon as the Jaguars lost in the NCAA Division-II National Championship game 87-76 to Winona State.  The title game appearance is the first ever for both Coach Metress and the ASU men's basketball program.

GABCA Releases Inaugural NCAA Division-III All-State Awards
The Georgia Basketball Coaches Association has released its inaugural NCAA Division-III All-State awards.  The GABCA is in its first year of existence as an association of college basketball coaches with the intent of promoting small college basketball in the Peach state. The Division-III All-State awards are highlighted by an All-State team of five players, an honorable mention of players, an All-State Academic team, as well as Player, Coach, and Freshman of the Year awards.

D3Hoops.com's Pat Coleman Features Georgia Division-III Basketball On National Website
As part of D3Hoops.com's Southern Hospitality tour, NCAA Division-III basketball in the deep south (Georgia and Alabama) was featured by editor Pat Coleman on his national website.  The tour was made possible by a collaborative effort from the Division-III coaches in the Peach state.  Click here to get more information on D-III hoops in Georgia including interviews from Warren Haynes (LaGrange College), Lee Glenn (Piedmont College), Philip Ponder (Oglethorpe University), and Jason Zimmerman (Emory University).
