About The Georgia Cup
The 2003-2004 season featured the biggest change in the Georgia Cup’s history.  Founding Georgia Cup member Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) left the NCAA Division-III ranks and joined the NAIA.  So after six years of continuity with Emory, Oglethorpe, and SCAD the Georgia Cup lost a member but gained two new members.  LaGrange College and Piedmont College officially joined NCAA Division-III and joined the race for the cup starting in 2004.  The Cup, the All-State Team, and the Player of the Year are annually decided after the Emory University Spring Invitational.

Immediately after the Emory University Spring Invitational final round awards are presented, the Georgia Cup ceremony is held.  The Georgia Cup is awarded to the team with the lowest vs. adjusted par average for the season in pre-determined Georgia Cup events.  Georgia Cup events include any event that at least two of the GC teams compete in together and complete a minimum of 18 holes and a maximum of 54 holes.

The player with the lowest vs. adjusted par average at the conclusion of the season is named Georgia Cup Player of the Year and awarded a trophy at the awards ceremony.  A runner-up Player of the Year and an All-State team receives trophies at the ceremony.

A new format was adopted for the 2003-04 golf season.  A formula giving weight to tournaments based on the number of Georgia Cup teams appearing together was created.  If all four teams play in the same event it will be weighted more heavily than events with three and two teams appearing.

Using weighted scoring average against an adjusted par each round involving more than one Georgia Cup team will count in the standings.  An adjusted par had to be brought into the equation because the approximately 12 different tournaments encompassing the Georgia Cup events will be played over a dozen different courses with par ranging from 70-72.
Adjusted par is calculated by adding up the number of rounds played on the different courses and their respected par, weighted times the number of teams in the Georgia Cup playing in the tournament.  To qualify, a player must compete in 75% of his team’s tournaments.  If number is not a whole number, the number will be rounded up to the next whole number.
