Women's Basketball Coaches

Head Coach Charles Cooper
Charles Cooper came out of retirement from Valdosta State University to take over the women’s basktball program at Piedmont.  Coach Cooper is begining his fourth year as head coach of the Lady Lions.  Cooper was the head women’s basketball coach at VSU for 13 years and his team won the Gulf South Conference twice.  Prior to his position at Valdosta State, he coached women’s basketball at Lowndes High School, winning 274 games and losing only 37.  Lowndes High School won four straight AAAA state championships and was selected as National Champion four times.  At one point, Coopers’ team won 124 consecutive games.  He also coached high school boys basketball and compiled a record of 372-170.  Coach Cooper is one of Georgia’s winningest coaches. He has 907 overall wins.  Coach Cooper lives in Dahlonega where his wife, Jean, is principal of Lumpkin County High School.

Assistant Coach Shannon Dillinger
As a 1998 graduate of Piedmont, Shannon is beginning her first year as assistant coach for the Lady Lions.  Having played for Coach Cooper his first year at Piedmont, she is familiar with his coaching philosophy and strategies.  Shannon taught Spanish in Forsyth County after graduating for one year, then worked as a therapeutic wilderness counselor for emotional/behavioral disorder boys for ona year.  She is excited about being back at Piedmont and working with the Lady Lions.
