Maryville 27, #5 Fisk 2 -

Maryville advance to semifinal action with an
easy 27-2 victory over Fisk as the Scots scored 11 runs in the
third inning to pull away. Fisk opened the scoring in the top
of the first with one of their two runs but it was all MC from
there. Maryville had 11 different players record multiple hits
as AJ Herron earned the victory on the mound allowing only one
hit against nine strikeouts. Fisk's Justin Carter was 1-3 to
lead the Bulldogs. |

LaGrange 10, #2 Huntingdon 1 - Box
Score
LaGrange used a
seven-run sixth inning en route to a 10-1 victory securing a
place in the winner's bracket game. LC's Joey Merrifield earned
the victory on the mound pitching a complete-game scattering
six hits against seven strikeouts. HC avoided the shutout with
a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Seth Tucker
and Nick Nelson combined for six hits for LaGrange while Huntingdon's
Tyler Jones posted a pair of hits to lead the Hawks' offense.

Piedmont 5, #4 Maryville 3 - Box
Score
Top-seeded Piedmont
held off a last-inning rally from Maryville and post a 5-3 victory
to move to the winner's bracket game versus third-seeded LaGrange.
MC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first
and third innings, but Piedmont responded with three in the
bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Bill Secor earned
the victory for Piedmont while Josh Berens earned the save after
recording the final out with bases loaded. PC's Travis Hunt
was 3-5 from the plate with a run scored and an RBI to lead
the Lions' offense while Adam Rosen led the Scots with a 4-2
day from the plate including an RBI. |
Game #4 - Huntingdon
20, #5 Fisk 0 - Box
Score
In the championship's
first elimination game, second-seeded Huntingdon advanced to
Sunday action with a 20-0 victory over fifth-seeded Fisk. Huntingdon
scored runs in all seven innings as they pounded out 24 hits
on the evening. Brent Nichols went the distance allowing only
one hit while Kaleb Davis hightlighted the offense with a 4-5
night from the plate. The loss eliminates Fisk from the GSAC
Championship. |

Game #5 - #3
LaGrange 13, #1 Piedmont 3 - Box
Score
Third-seeded LaGrange
earned a berth in tomorrow's championship game with a 13-3 victory
over top-seeded tournament host Piedmont. LC trailed 2-1 heading
midway through the fourth inning but scored seven runs in the
bottom half and never looked back. Kevin Finnigan earned the
victory on the mound throwing a complete-game striking out four
while scattering nine hits. Brandon Mahoney and Andrew Keith
were each 3-5 from the plate for LaGrange as the duo combined
to knock in five runs. Travis Hunt led the Piedmont offense
with a 3-5 day from the plate that included a run scored and
two RBI's. |
Game #6 - #2
Huntingdon 5, #4 Maryville 1 - Box
Score
Second-seeded Huntingdon
eliminated fourth-seeded Maryville 5-1 to advance to the third-place
game. The Hawks broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the
top of the seventh inning. Kevin Patton earned the victory on
the mound with a complete-game performance that included four
strikeouts. Taylor Files led the HC offense with a 3-4 performance
from the plate that included a run scored and an RBI. Maryville's
Kevin McKeethan and Ryan Kinsler each recorded multiple hits
in a losing effort. |

Piedmont 3, #2 Huntingdon 1 - Box
Score
Top-seeded Piedmont
earned a spot in tomorrow's championship game with a 3-1 victory
over second-seeded Huntingdon. PC scored single runs in the
fourth and sixth innings before adding an inusurance run in
the eighth inning. HC plated its only run in the bottom of the
seventh. John Vohlken earned the victory on the mound scattering
five hits in just over six innings of work. PC's Travis Hunt
was a perfect 4-4 from the plate offensively. Five different
HC players recored a single hit for the Hawks. |

Game #8 - #3
LaGrange 12, #1 Piedmont 11 - Box
Score
Third-seeded LaGrange earned the school's
second Great South Athletic Conference baseball championship
in dramatic fashion as Stephen Cheney belted a walk-off two-run
homerun over right center field for a 12-11 championship win.
Piedmont raced out to an 8-1 advantage midway through the sixth
inning, but LC rallied for seven in the bottom half to tie the
game. Piedmont would again grab the momentum with three in the
top of the eighth only to set up LaGrange's dramatic four-run
ninth. For his efforts, Cheney was voted the championship's
Most Valuable Player. |
