Nationally-Ranked #20 Averett Holds Off Piedmont Rally For 73-67 Victory
In the final game of the 2006 Piedmont College Holiday Round Robin Classic
nationally-ranked #20 Averett University held off a second-half comeback
from host Piedmont College for the 73-67 victory. After trailing by
nine at halftime, the Lions rebounded in the second half and cut the
lead to three with less than a minute to play but could never gain the
lead and dropped the six-point loss.
PC never held the
lead as Averett went on a 12-6 run to end the first half and take a
40-31 lead into halftime. With five minutes to go in the game the Lions
went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 65-60 but AU was able to secure
the victory going 5-6 from the charity stripe in the waning seconds.
Jake Baldwin led
all scorers with a game-high 20 points while Mike Adams also reached
double-figures with 12 points. Wesley Parker chipped-in with nine points
and an impressive five offensive rebounds.
PC enters the winter
break with on overall record of 4-5. The Lions will return to the court
on Tuesday, January 2nd as they host non-conference Oglethorpe University
in Cave Arena starting at 7:00.
