Men's Basketball Team Wins Overtime Thriller Over Rust
Despite an impressive second half comeback by Rust College, the Piedmont
College men's basketball team was able to prevail in overtime and secure
an 97-90 victory in the opening game of the 2006 PC Holiday Round-Robin
Classic at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, GA. After seeing a three-point
lead evaporate at the close of regulation the Lions hit a pair of clutch
three-pointers at the start of overtime and then took care of business
at the charity stripe to seal the seven-point victory.
The Lions entered
halftime with a 10-point lead and extended it to as much as 12 points
but Rust fought back and hit a three-pointer with only 12 seconds left
at the end of the second half. In overtime Jake Green and Tyler Whitlock
hit three pointers on consecutive trips down the floor. With time winding
down and the game still in doubt PC converted on 5-6 free throws to
seal the win.
Jake Baldwin recorded
his fifth double-double of the season with 32 points and 15 rebounds,
both game highs. Whitlock added a career-high 24 points, seven on which
came in overtime, and Mike Adams and Green both chipped in with 10 points
respectively.
The Lions will return
to the court on Sunday, December 10th as they square-off against Averett
University, currently ranked 20th nationally in the latest D3Hoops.com
national poll. The game will conclude the Holiday Round-Robin Classic
and begin at 4:00 at Toccoa Falls College.
