Women's Basketball Team Falls To Methodist 69-61
The Piedmont College women's basketball team fell to host Methodist
University 69-61 tonight in the opening round of the InnKeeper Turkey
Shootout in Fayetteville, NC. MU outrebounded the Lady Lions 41-25 as
they fall to 1-3 overall on the season.
Piedmont took
the early lead in the first half before Methodist took over with a 3-pointer
by freshman Michaela Myers to go up 14-12 with just over 12 minutes
remaining. Piedmont's Beth Adcock tied the game at 26 with 2:08 left
in the first half, but the Monarchs went on a 7-2 run in the final two
minutes to make the score 33-28 at halftime.
Methodist came back
in the second half expanding their lead to 10 at two different points,
but Piedmont stayed just close enough to keep the Monarchs fighting.
Rebounding became a team effort as four different players pulled in
five or more boards. Methodist scored 16 second chance points following
their own missed shots. Junior Lisa Jackson knocked down two 3-pointers
on the way to a game-leading 19 points.
Yetta Bailey netted a season-high 17 points on 6-11 shooting from the
floor to lead the Piedmont offense. Sheena Trimiar added 12 points,
four rebounds, and a team-high four steals.
Piedmont will complete play in the InnKeeper Turkey Shootout tomorrow
afternoon as the Lady Lions square off against USA-South member Ferrum
College at 2:00.
