Men's Basketball Team Falls To Greensboro 81-71 In Season-Opener
The
Piedmont College men's basketball team opened the 2006-07 season this
afternoon with an 81-71 loss to Greensboro College in the opening round
of the USA-South/Great South Tip-Off Classic at Ferrum College in Ferrum,
VA. The Lions trailed by 11 at halftime but rallied to tie the game
at 69 before GC closed the game with a 13-2 run over the last three
minutes.
The Lions trailed by 11 with just over 11:00 remaining but used a 7-0
run to begin their climb back into the game. For the game, Piedmont
shot a dismal 6-14 (43%) from the free throw line and committed 21 turnovers.
Jake Baldwin led the Lions with a team-highs of 21 points and seven
rebounds while Mike Adams added 11 points on 3-7 shooting from behind
the three-point line. Jake Green turned in a solid performance of eight
points, eight assists, and three rebounds.
Piedmont had nine players log double-figure minutes with 10 different
players scoring points.
Piedmont will turn around and take on tournament host Ferrum College
tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. Ferrum defeated fellow-GSAC member Huntingdon
College by the score of 73-52.
