Cross Country Teams Finish Third & Fourth At GSAC Championship Meet
The
Piedmont College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the
2006 Great South Athletic Conference championships today in Decatur,
GA. The Lady Lions finished fourth out of six teams while the Lions
finished third out of three teams.
Leading the way
for the women was freshman Erin McAllister who finished the 6K run in
31:20. Following McAllister was Jennifer Gathercoal and Leah Della Torre
who crossed the line in 31:40 and 31:44 respectively. Rounding out the
team was Kris Pratt and Catherine Gearhart who both finished in under
38 minutes. The women finished 58 points behind Maryville College who
took the championship.
On the men's side,
Jordan Hubbard was the top Lion runner completing the 8K run in 35:48.
Wally Smith crossed the line in 37:58 and Jeremy Bishop finished in
41:28. Rounding out the field for PC was Alex Edwards and Chris Chesterman
who completed the run in under 46 minutes. The men finished 68 points
behind the champion Scots from Maryville College.
Additionally, six PC cross country athletes were honored in the league's
year-end honors. For the women, Della Torre, Gathercoal, Jillian Pratt,
and Joanna Moye were each honored as All-Academic selections while Bishop
and Smith each garnered the academic honor on the men's side.
