Women's Soccer Team Falls In GSAC Tournament Semifinals
In
the semifinals of the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference women's soccer
championship, the Piedmont College women's soccer team was defeated
by top-seed and tournament host Maryville College this afternoon by
the score of 7-0. PC allowed four first-half goals and could never overcome
the deficit in the defeat.
Maryville struck
quickly with goals at the second and sventhth minute and then tacked
on goals less than two minutes apart before intermission. The second
half was more of the same as Piedmont allowed three insurance goals
in the span of fifteen minutes.
PC could never get
it going on offense recording zero shots on goal compared to their opponents
13. The Lady Lions were also shutout in the corner-kick department 16-0.
The women finish
their season with an overall record of 8-9-2 while Maryville advances
to the championship match where they will face Spelman College who upset
second-seeded Agnes Scott College 2-1 in the other semifinal.
