Volleyball Team Well-Represented In GSAC Year-End Awards
The
Piedmont College volleyball team was well-represented in the Great South
Athletic Conference's year-end awards that were announced in conjuction
with the 2006 GSAC Volleyball Championship hosted at Piedmont's Johnny
Mize Athletic Center. The volleyball team placed five players on the
All-Academic Team, three players on the All-Conference Team, and two
players on the All-Freshman Team.
Senior Jacque DeMarrais,
setter B.J. Ostrzycki, and libero Jill Sparger were all named to the
GSAC All-Conference Team. Nikki Cole and classmate Tyler Baldonado represented
PC on the All-Freshman Team. DeMarrais, Ostrzycki, Sparger, Sarah Lane
and Meghann Clark were all named to the All-Academic Team.
For the regular
season DeMarrais was the team leader in total kills (325), hitting percentage
(28.6%), solo blocks (53), block assists (42) and total blocks (95).
Ostrzycki led the squad in assists (863) and reached the 3,000 career-assist
mark in her junior campaign. Sparger led the Lady Lions in digs (401)
and was second on the team in service aces (38).
