Men's Soccer Team Advances To GSAC Championship Match
In
semifinal action at the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference Championship
Tournament, the second-seeded Lions of Piedmont College defeated the
third-seeded Hawks of Huntingdon College this evening in Maryville,
TN by the score of 5-1. PC dominated the offensive side of the ball
scoring five first-half goals and outshooting their opponents 21-4.
Jorge Pradillo notched
the first goal for Piedmont at the second minute with the assist credited
to senior George Sandi. Drew Griffin then recorded the hat-trick of
three goals in the span of 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.
Huntingdon found
the back of the net once at the 29th minute but PC responed five minutes
before the half with an unassisted insurance goal from Kuno Schaeuble.
Between the posts Patrick Ratigan was impressive with only one goal
allowed and a pair of saves.
The men will face
top-seed and tournament host Maryville College tomorrow at 4:00 in the
championship match. The game serves as a rematch from the 2005 GSAC
championship match where Maryville defeated Piedmont by the score of
1-0.
