Volleyball Team Finishes Strong At Centre Halloween Bash
In
its final regular season matches of the season, the Piedmont College
volleyball team split four matches in the Centre College Halloween Bash
moving the Lady Lions to 21-11 on the year. Yesterday the women fell
to tournament host Centre 30-19, 30-25, and 30-20 then turned around
a dropped a straight set decision to Mount Saint Joseph College 30-13,
30-21 and 30-13. The Lady Lions bounced back today defeating Wilmington
College 30-22, 30-22, and 30-20 then Oglethorpe University 30-13, 30-22,
31-33 and 30-14.
On Saturday, Piedmont
was led by Jacque DeMarrais who tallied 14 total kills and Nikki Cole
who combined for 13 kills. Defensively libero Jill Sparger was impressive
with 34 total digs while Mandi Harmon chipped-in with 21 total digs.
This afternoon the
Lady Lions found their offense as six players reached double-figure
kills. Sarah Lane led the team with 28 total kills while Ashley Chima
added 21 total kills. It was a career day for setter B.J. Ostrzycki
as she notched her 3,000th career assist against Wilmington.
For her solid defensive performance, Sparger was elected to the Centre
College Halloween Bash All-Tournament team.
The women will return
to action this Friday, November 3rd as they host the 2006 Great South
Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship in the Johnny Mize Athletic
Center beginning at 4:00.
