Women's Soccer Team Advances To GSAC Semifinals
The
fourth-seeded Piedmont College women's soccer team posted
its seventh shutout of the season as the Lady Lions paved their way
to the Great South Athletic Conference Championship seminfinals with
an easy 3-0 victory over visiting fifth-seeded LaGrange College. The
game was part of quarterfinal action hosted by the higher seeds.
Piedmont jumped out to a 2-0 lead at intermission behind goals by Katie
Porter and Anna Darvish. Both goals were assisted by Mary Ann Alexander.
PC added an insurance goal at the 57:00 mark as Katlin Delvasto found
the back of the net on an assist by Haley Boyce.
The physical game was marred by two red cards and a pair of yellow cards
with just over 10:00 remaining in the contest.
Piedmont advances to face top-seeded Maryville College on Friday, November
3rd at 1:00 in Maryville, TN. Second-seeded Agnes Scott and third-seeded
Huntingdon round out the tournament's other semifinal. For the first
year ever, the GSAC tournament champion receives an an automatic berth
into the 2006 NCAA Division-III National Championship tournament.
