Katie Porter Earns Spot In Record Books Against Wesleyan
Behind
a record-setting performance from freshman Katie Porter the Piedmont
College women's soccer team routed Great South Athletic Conference host
Wesleyan College tonight in Macon, GA by the score of 12-1. Porter notched
nine goals making her the Piedmont record holder and second all-time
in the NCAA Division-III records for goals in a single match.
Porter's nine goals
and 18 points shattered the previous records in school history which
stood at six goals and 14 points. The new records pass the previous
marks held by Anglea Hallmon (6 goals) and Marcy Grulke (10 points).
In the NCAA-III record books her 18 points in a single match ranks tied
for second all-time tied with Katie Pope (Benedictine, 2000). Her goals
came at the hands of Wesleyan's goalkeeper who finished as the national
leader a year ago in saves for NCAA Division-III.
After Wesleyan struck
first at the 14th minute it was all PC as the Lady Lions scored 12 unanswered
goals. Chipping in was Mary Ann Alexander who notced a pair of goals
and assists while Samantha Graham tallied a single goal and assist.
In her second match of the season Haley Boyce added a pair of assists
while Caitlin Delvasto recorded a single assist.
The victory moves
Piedmont to 7-8-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
The women will begin the GSAC tournament on Saturday, October 28th as
they host LaGrange College in quarterfinal action at Walker Field beginning
at 3:00.
