PC Volleyball Team Deals Maryville First League Loss
It was a big day for the Piedmont College volleyball team this afternoon
in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center as the Lady Lions were able to defeat
visiting Great South Athletic Conference opponent Maryville College
by the scores of 30-27, 22-30, 30-23 and 30-19. The women then turned
around and defeated non-conference NAIA opponent Reinhardt College 30-11,
30-13 and 30-22.
The wins improve
PC to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the Great South Athletic Conference. Maryville
drops to 17-9 overall and 6-1 in the GSAC. The Lady Lions will return
to action again on Saturday, October 14th as they compete in the Thomas
More College Invitational. The pair of victories marks the seventh win
in the last eight matches for the PC volleyball team.
In the first game
against Maryville, the Lady Lions were down 16-10 and then rattled off
six straight points behind the serving of Jill Sparger. The teams traded
games in the second and third but it was all PC in the fourth and final
game as the women led by as many as 13 points and cruised to the victory.
The victory over MC is the first in four seasons for Piedmont and marks
the Lady Scots' initial GSAC loss of the season.
The Lady Lions were
in complete control of Reinhardt as Sparger again showed her ability
to serve winners with 13 and 10 consecutive points in the match. For
the day Sarah Lane tallied 23 total kills and B.J. Ostrzycki added 66
assists.
