Maryville Slides Past Men's Soccer Team 1-0
In a closely contested match the Scots of Maryville College were able
to find the back of the net at the 78th minute and defeated the Piedmont
College men's soccer team 1-0 at PC's Walker Field. Both teams offenses
were trading shots on goal back and forth but it was MC who found the
net with 12 minutes to go in regulation.
The loss moves Piedmont
to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Great South while Maryville improves to
8-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Lions will return to action
again on Monday at Walker Field as they host visiting non-conference
NAIA opponent Faulkner University starting at 7:00.
Despite outshooting
Maryville 8-5 and recording 10 corner kicks compared to their opponents
four, the Lions could not find the much needed goal. Maryville's Joel
Adams scored on a cross from Jason Bowman and sealed the victory.
Patrick Ratigan
was impressive between the posts recording four crucial saves. Drew
Griffin had three shots on goal to lead him teammates and with less
than a minute to go senior George Sandi struck a solid shot from outside
the box but it was gatherd up by Jared Cooper as time ran out on the
match.
