Volleyball Team Wins Two Of Three At GSAC Weekend
By
winning two out of three Great South Athletic Conference matches this
weekend, the Piedmont College volleyball team now stands at 11-5 overall
and 3-2 in the GSAC. In two matches on Saturday the women played a pair
of five-game matches defeating LaGrange College 31-33, 30-26, 28-30,
30-18 and 15-13 but then falling to Huntingdon College 26-30, 22-30,
30-17, 30-23 and 12-15. This afternoon the Lady Lions handled Spelman
College in straight-sets by the scores of 30-24, 30-15 and 30-12.
In the hard-fought
victory over LaGrange, B.J. Ostrzycki matched a season-high with 49
assists, 18 of which went for kills recorded by Meghann Clark. Jacque
DeMarrais and Sarah Lane both chipped in with 12 apiece and Jill Sparger
notched a career-high 22 digs to lead the defense.
In the nightcap
against Huntingdon, DeMarrais led the charge with 16 kills and three
solo blocks while teammates Clark and Lane combined for 27 kills. Sparger
tallied 20 digs and Ostrzycki recorded 45 assists.
Against Spelman it was the combination of DeMarrais
and Lane who recorded 11 kills apiece and led the Lady Lions to the
straight-set victory.
The women will return
to the court again on Saturday, October 7th as they host Great South
foe Maryville College in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center starting at
1:00. The team will also play an Alumni Game on Friday, October 6th
in the Mize Center with festivities set to begin at 7:00.
