Men's Golf Earns Runner-Up Finish At 4th Annual The Orchard Fall Invitational

The host Piedmont College men's golf team earned a runner-up finish this afternoon by posting a team score of 303 at the 4th Annual The Orchard Fall Invitational in Clarkesville, GA. The Lions finished two strokes shy of NCAA Division-II Clayton State University who won the 11-team event with a 303.

Piedmont's Andy Cartwright tied for medalist honors with a career-low 71 (-1). He went into a three-man sudden death playoff with Reinhardt's Bart Johnson and CSU's Matt Beall. Beall was eliminated after hole #1 when Cartwright and Johnson carded birdies. Johnson earned medalist honors on hole #2 with a par.

PC's Stephen Giddens posted a three-over 75 and joined Cartwright on the All-Tournament team. Matt Goodall and Matt Howell rounded out the Lions' "A" team scoring with a 79 and 80 respectively.

The Piedmont College "B" team continued its strong play with a sixth-place finish. Mike Matthews was the top finisher on the "B" team with a six-over 78 which was good for a tie for 12th in the 52-player field.

Piedmont will return to action on October 2-3 when the team travels to Winston-Salem, NC to take part in the Greensboro College Pride Fall Invitational at Meadowlands Golf Course.
