Porter Sisters Lead Piedmont To GSAC Women's Soccer Victory
Behind
three second-half goals, the Piedmont College women's soccer team defeated
visiting Great South Athletic Conference opponent LaGrange College tonight
at Walker Field by the score of 3-0. After going into the half knotted
at zero the Lady Lions struck a hat-trick in the final 25 minutes to
seal the shutout victory.
Freshman Katie Porter recorded the eventual game-winning
goal in the 65th minute on an assist from Mary Ann Alexander. The duo
struck again 12 minutes later with an insurance goal and Katie Corley
notched her second-career goal unassisted in the 88:00 minute.
On the defensive side junior Erin Porter got her first-career
shutout in goal saving a pair of shots. PC controlled the ball for most
of the match outshooting their opponents 14-2.
The victory moves
the Lady Lions to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Great South Athletic
Conference. The women will return to action again on Saturday, September
23rd as they play host to GSAC member Huntingdon College at Walker Field
with kickoff slated for 1:00.
