Women's Soccer Team Battles Brenau To 2-2 Tie
Two
overtime periods of soccer was not enough to decide a winner this afternoon
in the PC Women's Soccer Classic as Piedmont and tournament champion
Brenau University played to a 2-2 tie in double-overtime. Today's game
marks the third consecutive outing that the Lady Lions have played into
overtime.
After allowing a
goal at the 12th minute and then another on a penalty-kick at the 16th
minute PC rallied to draw within a goal as Chelsea Angelich scored an
unassisted goal at the 35th minute. The Lady Lions found the equalizer
at the 68th minute as Katie Porter scored on a penalty-kick.
Both teams would
then play 42 minutes of scoreless soccer before the expiration of overtime.
For the match PC was outshot 13-7 but were able to capitalize on their
opportunities.
The draw moves Piedmont
to 1-2-1 for the year. The Lady Lions will return to action again on
Wednesday, September 13th as they open Great South Athletic Conference
competition at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA with kick-off slated for
4:00.
