Volleyball Team Wins Three Of Four Matches At Greensboro College Invitational
The
Piedmont College volleyball team won three of four NCAA Division-III
South Region matches this weekend at the 2006 Greensboro College Invitational
at GC's Hanes Gym in Greensboro, NC.
On Friday, Piedmont split a pair of matches against teams from the USA
South Athletic Conference by defeating Meredith College 30-25, 30-26
and 30-20 but then falling to tournament host Greensboro 30-27, 30-24
and 30-26.
In the first match the Lady Lions featured a balance offensive attack
as Nikki Cole, Jacque DeMarrais and Meghann Clark tallied 10 kills apiece.
Setter B.J. Ostrzycki recorded 34 assists, her second-highest total
this season.
In the second match
DeMarrais and Clark again led the offense notching eight kills apiece
and Ostrzycki earned 22 assists. Cole added five kills and Sarah Lane
added three in the defeat.
On Saturday, Piedmont defeated as pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference
teams as the Lady Lions downed Guilford College 30-17, 30-12 and 30-16
and then returned to defeat Lynchburg College 30-27, 30-22, 28-30 and
30-26.
Against Guilford,
Jacque DeMarrais continued her consistent offensive production with
12 kills to lead the team. In the second match of the day Nikki Cole
led the way with 15 kills followed by DeMarrais and Meghann Clark who
tallied 12 kills apiece. Setter B.J. Ostrzycki averaged better than
31 assists per match for the tournament including a season-high total
of 38 against Lynchburg.
DeMarrais managed
a tournament average of 10.5 kills per match and for her efforts was
named to the All-Tournament Team.
The volleyball team
now stands at 6-3 overall on the season. PC will return to action again
on Friday, September 15th as they open up Great South Athletic Conference
competition against Maryville College in Maryville, TN starting at 6:00.
