Virginia Wesleyan Defeats Men's Soccer Team 5-1
After
jumping out to a 1-0 lead, the Piedmont College men's soccer team could
not hold off tournament host Virginia Wesleyan College, currently ranked
#3 in the NSCAA South Region, who came on strong with five unanswered
goals to win 5-1. The game was part of first-round action of the VWC
Blue Marlin/Adidas Soccer Classic.
The Lions allowed three first-half goals and two insurance goals in
the second-half to drop their second straight match.
Drew Griffin provided
the lone goal for the Lions scoring in the 4th minute. Despite multiple
opportunities PC could not find the back of the net for the final 86
minutes. The Lions best chance came in the second-half but was denied
as VWC goalie stopped a penalty-kick from Griffin.
The Lions now stand
at 1-2 overall and will return to action again tomorrow, September 10th
in the second day of the tournament. Piedmont will square-off against
Randolph-Macon College with kick-off set for 12:00.
