Team Splits Four Matches At Oglethorpe University Classic
The Piedmont College
volleyball team opened its 2006 season by splitting four matches at
the Oglethorpe University Classic in Atlanta, GA. The Lady Lions defeated
Guilford College on Saturday 30-13, 30-17 and 30-20 and then fell in
the second match to North Central College 19-30, 25-30 and 24-30. On
Sunday, PC fell to the University of Dallas 25-30, 15-30 and 24-30 but
rebounded to defeat Mississippi College 23-30, 30-27, 31-29 and 30-21.
Senior Jacque DeMarrais
and sophomore Meghann Clark both tallied tournament averages of 8.8
kills per match. Sophomore setter B.J. Ostrzycki recorded a tournament
average of 24.8 assists per match and senior libero Mandi Harmon tallied
an average of 12 digs per match. Freshman Nikki Cole recorded a tournament
average of 6.8 kills per game and freshman Tyler Baldonado notched 10
assists in her first match for the Lady Lions.
For her efforts,
Ostrzycki was named to the Oglethorpe University Classic All-Tournament
Team.
The Lady Lions now
stand at 2-2 overall. The volleyball team will return to action again
on Tuesday, Spetmebr 5th in their home-opener against non-conference
foe Toccoa Falls College at 5:00 in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center.
