Team Falls To Host Maryville In GSAC Tournament Opener
The Piedmont College baseball team dropped the first game of the 2007
Great South Athletic Conference Tournament to host Maryville College
this evening by the score of 7-5. The Lions held a 5-3 lead into the
eighth but the Scots connected on a pair of homeruns plating four runs
and sealing the victory.
PC jumped out to
an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Maryville answered
with an unearned run in the third and then single runs in both the fifth
and sixth innings giving them a slim 3-2 led. The Lions responded with
three runs in the sixth but allowed four unanswered runs which proved
to be the game-winners in the eighth.
Leading the offense
for Piedmont was Travis Hunt, Cole Spedale, and Evan Nissley who notched
a pair of hits respectively. Luke Dombrowsky chipped in going 1-4 with
a pair of RBI's while Zac Stein added a 1-2 night with an RBI.
The loss drops PC
to 19-22 overall. The Lions will return to action again tomorrow, April
28th as they take on LaGrange College at 12:00 in the tournament's first
elimination game.
