Women's Golf Team Finishes Season In Record-Breaking Fashion
The Piedmont College women's golf team wrapped up the 2006-2007 season in record-breaking fashion as the Lady Lions shattered numerous school records and personal bests at the 2007 Methodist University Lady Monarch Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, NC.
In honor of the victims from last week's shootings at Virginia Tech University, the PC women's golf team added maroon and orange hair ribbons to their normal school colors on both days of competition of the tournament (see photo below).
In addition to Piedmont (currently ranked 67th nationally), the tournament field featured the nine-time defending NCAA Division-III National Champion Lady Monarchs, and NCAA Division-I South Carolina State University.
Piemdont's opening day score of 374 was the fourth-best single round in school history as Lynne Laseter hightlighted the day with a school-record four over par 74. Her score led the 25-player field by one stroke. At the midway point Laseter led four NCAA-III All-Americans, the two-time defending NCAA-III National Champion, and five Division-I players. Her score bettered the previous single-round school record by six strokes.
Saturday's round also featured personal bests from Tiffany Foster (91), Ashley Rutledge (100), and Lacy Reck (118).
Piedmont's 36-hole score of 374-404--777 is the second-best in school history behind the team's 380-389--769 at the 2006 PC Fall Invitational.
With a roster of four freshmen and one sophomore, the team is looking forward to the upcoming off-season and continue their climb up the national rankings.
