Team Splits Pair Of Games At GSAC Tournament
The Piedmont College softball team split a pair of games this afternoon
at the 2007 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament in Maryville,
TN defeating sixth-seeded Spelman College 12-0 but then falling to second-seeded
LaGrange College 7-0. The third-seeded Lady Lions capitilized on four
SC errors that led to 10 unearned runs but committed six errors themselves
against LC which led to three unearned runs.
Against Spelman
Leah Della Torre led the offense going 1-2 with a pair of RBI's and
a run scored. On the mound Michelle Broderick threw a complete game
shutout striking out seven while walking none.
Against LaGrange
the Panthers scored in all but two innings on offense and cruised to
the seven-run victory. Six Lady Lions recorded single hit days at the
plate while Meredith Ray suffered the loss going six innings allowing
eight hits and four earned runs.
PC now stands at
19-20 overall. The women will return to the field tomorrow in an elimination
game against fifth-seeded Wesleyan College beginning at 9:00.
