Team Splits With Maryville To Win Conference Series
The Piedmont College
baseball team split a pair of games with visiting Great South Athletic
Conference member Maryville College this afternoon dropping game one
8-7 but rebounding to win the finale 18-7. The first loss snapped a
five-game winning streak for PC, the longest of the season for the Lions.
The first game was
halted yesterday due to rainy weather and was resumed in the top of
the eighth inning with the scored tied 7-7. After the Scots scored the
go-ahead run in the top of the ninth the Lions were unable to mount
a comeback and dropped the one-run decision.
In the second game
Piedmont exploded for 18 runs on 18 hits en route to the 11-run victory.
After Maryville scored a pair of runs in the top of the first the Lions
responded with five runs in the first and tacked on six runs in the
second. After MC scored another pair of runs PC added five insurance
runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Offensively Evan
Nissley went 2-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored. Luke Dombrowsky
and Tyson Baxter added a pair of hits and three RBI's apiece while Travis
Hunt chipped-in going 3-6 with three RBI's.
The split moves
Piedmont to 16-20 overall and 3-3 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
The Lions will return to action again on Tuesday, April 17th as they
travel to non-conference opponent Sewanee-University of the South in
Sewanee, TN with first-pitch slated for 2:00 CST.
