Softball
Team Ends Losing Skid By Pounding Sewanee
It was a high-powered
offensive day for the Piedmont College softball team as the Lady Lions
ended an eight-game losing skid by defeating visiting Sewanee-University
of the South by the scores of 28-0 and 10-2. The women pounded out 38
runs on 36 hits en route to the victories.
In the first game
the Lady Lions struck in the bottom of the first with 11 runs. PC tacked
on four in the third and a season-high 13 runs in the fourth. Marissa
Harding led the offense going 5-5 with six RBI's and five runs scored.
Game two was much
of the same as the softball team notched three runs in the first and
six in the second. Sewanee was able to plate single runs in the second
and fifth but could get no closer and lost the run-ruled game.
For the day Harding
was 7-8 with eight RBI's and seven runs scored. Megan Day chipped in
going 5-8 with three RBI's and five runs scored while Emily Maxey went
3-4 with four RBI's. Michelle Broderick and Laura Puckett recorded their
first collegiate victories on the mound.
PC now stands at
13-16 overall. The women will return to action again on Monday, April
2nd as they host Wesleyan College in a non-conference doubleheader beginning
at 5:00.
