Matt Burgess
Throws Complete-Game Shutout In GSAC Win At Huntingdon
Behind a remarkable
pitching performance from Matt Burgess the Piedmont College baseball
team opened Great South Athletic Conference play with an 8-0 victory
over host Huntingdon College this evening in Montgomery, AL. Burgess
went the distance striking out six hitters and facing only two hitters
more than the minimum.
The Lions struck
in the top of the second inning with three runs and added single runs
in both the fifth and sixth. Piedmont was able to tack on three insurance
runs in the top of the sixth and rolled to he eight-run victory.
Justin Vorherr led
the offense going 2-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored. Andy House
chipped in going 3-5 while Luke Dombrowsky added a pair of RBI's. Travis
Hunt and Evan Nissley also drove in single runs respectively.
The victory moves
Piedmont to 10-17 overall and 1-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow, March 30th in a doubleheader
beginning at 2:00 CST.
