Softball Team Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader To SWU

By allowing 29 hits in the doubleheader the Piedmont College softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting non-conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University this afternoon at Walker Field by the scores of 10-2 and 6-4. The Lady Lions committed eight errors that led to 12 unearned runs en route to the losses.

In the first game the Lady Warriors scored at least a run in the final five innings and cruised to the eight-run victory. PC's only runs came in the bottom of the sixth as Emily Maxey and Michelle Crandall drove home the runners.

The second game was much of the same as Michelle Broderick took the tough luck loss going the distance allowing six runs, zero earned, on three costly Lady Lions errors. Piedmont notched 11 hits led by Leah Della Torre and Jessica Van Dyke who both drove in a pair of runs apiece. Broderick went 2-2 while Nicole Payne added a 2-3 performance.

The loss drops PC to 11-16 overall. The women will return to action again on Friday, March 30th as they host south region foe Sewanee-University of the South at Walker Field for a doubleheader beginning at 4:00.
