Emory Completes
Three-Game Sweep Of PC Baseball Team
In the third game
of the weekend series with local rival Emory University, the Piedmont
College baseball team fell just short this afternoon in Atlanta, GA
and dropped the 5-4 decision in 10 innings. The 19th ranked Eagles plated
the game-winning run in the bottom of the tenth marking the third time
this season the Lions have been left on the field in a road defeat.
The Lions struck first in the top of the second as Justin
Vorherr doubled to left field to start the inning. After a stolen base
of third Stan Brosko notched an RBI groundout to give PC the early lead.
Piedmont extended their lead to 3-0 in the third as Andy House and Trey
McCay drove in runs with a single and a double respectively.
Emory answered in the home-half of the third with three
runs on two hits. Piedmont got the go-ahead run in the sixth as Brosko
again came thru with an RBI groundout. The Eagles scored the tying run
in the bottom of the eigth and held PC at bay until they knocked home
the game-winner in the home half of the tenth.
Justin Vorherr and Cole Spedale led the offense going
2-4 apiece while House added a 2-5 day from the plate. Spencer Shelton
went 7 1/3 innings allowing only three earned runs while striking out
five and taking the no-decision.
The loss drops Piedmont
to 9-16 overall. The Lions will return to action again on Wednesday,
March 28th as they will meet Millsaps College in a make-up game at neutral
site Brimingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL with game time slated
for 6:00 CST.
