PC Softball
Team Drops GSAC Doubleheader At Maryville
The Piedmont College
softball team was swept today by host Maryville College in a Great South
Athletic Conference doubleheader by the scores of 6-2 and 8-1. Piedmont
was held to just 12 hits on the day.
In game one Maryville
opened the scoring with a single run in the third inning, and added
two runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Scots then pulled away with
three more runs in the fifth inning. Piedmont answered back in their
half of the sixth inning with a single run, but thier comeback effort
came up short. Megan Day accounted for all of the Lady Lions offense
as she collected the only two hits Maryville allowed.
In game two, Maryville
opened up a 5-0 lead in the second inning and crused to the doubleheader
sweep winning the game 8-1. Piedmont's lone run crossed home in the
5th as Michelle Broderick singled to right field scoring Michelle Crandall
who reached first on a single that lead off the inning.
Michelle Broderick lead the Lions offense in game two with a perfect
4-4 performance at the plate, and Michelle Crandall chipped in with
a 2-2 day at the plate in game two.
The losses drops
PC to 11-10 overall, and 4-2 in the GSAC. The Lions will return to action
again March 22 as they travel to LaGrange, GA to face off with GSAC
foe LaGrange College in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled
for 4:00.
