Jake Baldwin
Named D3Hoops.com 1st Team All-Region
Piedmont College
men's basketball player Jake Baldwin has been selected a member of the
D3Hoops.com 1st team All-Region team for the South as announced today
by the national website. The NCAA Division-III All-Region honor is the
first-ever for the PC men's basketball program.
Joining Baldwin as a 1st team selection was Kevin Guyden of Mary-Hardin
Baylor, Lenny Hall of NC Wesleyan, Brandon Adair of Virginia Wesleyan,
and Ben Strong of Guilford. Strong was voted the region's Player of
the Year.
Baldwin led the Lions (13-13) in scoring with a 24.1 points per game
average and was the team's top rebounder with 9.0 boards per game. He
is currently ranked sixth in all of Division-III in points per game.
He is also ranked 36th nationally in overall field goal percentage (58.7%).
Baldwin was voted the Great South Athletic Conference's Co-Player of
the Year with Maryville College's Bobby Golden. He was honored as both
an All-Conference and All-Academic selection in the league's year-end
honor roll. Baldwin was named the league's Player of the Week on three
different occasions.
Baldwin earned All-Tournament honors at the USA-South/GSAC Tip-Off Classic
at Ferrum College and the Roger Taylor Invitational at NC Wesleyan College
where he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. He scored
a modern-era school record and career best 42 points in the Lions' overtime
victory over Wesley (DE) College. Additionally, the junior forward posted
11 double-doubles on the season.
In the Lions' December 10th loss to nationally-ranked Averett, Baldwin
netted his 1,000th career point and is currently only 94 points shy
of reaching the 1,500 point plateau.
