Team Wins Third Straight
The Piedmont College
baseball team scored in six of its eight innings of offense and rolled
to an 11-3 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Hampden-Sydney
College tonight at Loudermilk Field. In front of a capacity crowd the
baseball team pounded out 14 hits and never trailed in route to the
eight-run victory.
PC struck first
with a single run in the bottom of the first which was quickly answered
by the Tigers in the top of the second. The Lions notched three runs
in the home half of the second, a lead they never relenquished. The
Lions added single runs in the third and fourth and then opened the
game up with four runs in the fifth and one in the eighth.
On the mound Spencer
Shelton recorded his second win of the season going six and two-thirds
innings striking out seven hitters while scattering six hits and allowing
only one earned run. Tom Dimitroff sealed the victory from there going
two and a third innings without allowing a hit.
The Lions offense
was led by Andy House who went 4-5 with two doubles and four runs batted
in. Freshman Zac Stein went 3-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored
while Travis Hunt and Cole Spedale added a pair of hits and scored four
times collectively.
The victory moves
Piedmont to 7-10 overall. The Lions will play host to Franklin &
Marshall College on Wednesday, March 14th at Loudermilk Field with first
pitch scheduled for 7:00.
