For the fourth straight time this season the Piedmont College sotfball
team defeated a Great South Athletic Conference opponent this afternoon
edging visiting Huntingdon College 5-4 in game one and then 5-1 in game
two. The victories mark 18 consecutive GSAC regular-season victories
dating back to the 2006 season.
In the first game
of the doubleheader Huntingdon led 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh
inning. Freshman Shae David got things going with a walk followed by
a Megan Day single. Michelle Broderick put the Lady Lions within one
with an RBI single and then Marissa Harding stepped up and hit a walk-off
double plating both runners and giving PC the one-run victory.
In game two both
teams remained scoreless until the fourth when Piedmont picked up a
pair of unearned runs. In the next inning the Lady Lions exploded for
three runs capped off by yet another Harding double and RBI.
Meredith Ray went
the distance in both games recording the complete-game victories. Ray
allowed only two earned runs while striking out eight and improving
her season mark to 7-3.
The wins move Piedmont
to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. PC will
return to action again on Monday, March 5th as they travel to Millsaps
College in Jackson, MS with game time set for 5:00 CST.
