For the seventh time this season the Piedmont College baseball team
was defeated this afternoon at Loudermilk Field as visiting Marietta
College handed the Lions a 6-1 loss. Marietta, the defending NCAA Division-III
national champions, capitilized on three unearned runs and walked away
with the five-run victory.
The Lions allowed
a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run homer. MC added a pair
of unearned runs in the second and manufactured single runs in the sixth
and the ninth. The Lions only run came on a Justin Vorherr steal of
home with two outs and the bases loaded.
Tom Dimitroff suffered
his second loss of the season on the mound going 5 1/3 innings allowing
only three earned runs. Freshman Josh McEachin was impressive in relief
going 3 2/3 innings allowing only one run, unearned.
The loss drops the
Lions to 3-7 overall. The team will return to action again tomorrow,
March 4th as they host Marietta College at 12:00 and Bridgewater College
at 4:00.
