Men’s
Basketball Team Falls To PCC In Regular-Season Finale
The Piedmont College
men’s basketball team wrapped up its regular-season schedule tonight
in Pensacola, FL with an 83-75 non-conference loss to Pensacola Christian
College at PCC’s Sports Arena. The host Eagles used an 8-0 run
late in the second half to seal the victory.
Piedmont held a
slim one-point lead with four minutes remaining in the first half before
PCC put together a 15-2 run to hold a 12-point advantage with under
a minute to go in the half. The Lions responded with a quick five-point
spurt capped by Branden Mayweather’s three-point basket at the
buzzer to trail by seven at half.
PC picked up where
they left off and used a 14-3 run to open the second half and grab a
46-42 lead. From there the game would remain a single possession game
until PCC’s late eight point run.
Piedmont’s
Jake Baldwin led all scorers with a game-high 23 points including 19
in the second half. Michael Adams added 18 points and four rebounds
while teammate Michael Rubio came off the bench to score 12 points on
3-5 shooting from behind the three-point line.
PCC connected on
9-21 three-point attempts and 20-24 free throws to ice the game late.
Piedmont ends the
regular-season with a 13-12 overall record and will conclude the season
at the Great South Athletic Conference tournament on February 23-24
in LaGrange, GA. The third-seeded Lions will take on tournament host
LaGrange College at 3:00 on Friday.
