Men's Basketball Team Runs Past Huntingdon 96-77
In front of a capacity crowd in PC's Cave Arena, the senior class for
the Piedmont College men's basketball team was impressive and led the
Lions to a 96-77 victory over visiting Great South Athletic Conference
foe Huntingdon College. The defending GSAC champions were no match for
the outside shooting of PC, led by seniors Mike Adams, Drew Bailey and
Tyler Whitlock who combined for 43 points and nine three-pointers.
After trailing 13-7
early the Lions took the lead for good at 21-20 with nine minutes to
go in the first half. PC then proceeded to go on a 24-15 run to end
the first half. The Lions came out red hot in the second half connecting
on 11-13 shots from the field, good for a 16-2 run and a 61-39 lead.
The Lions led by as many as 24 before cruising to the 19-point victory.
Adams led four Lions
in double-figures with a game-high 23 points. Jake Baldwin chipped in
with 17 points while Branden Mayweather and Tyler Whitlock added 15
and 14 points respectively. Cole Hairston led four Hawks in double-figures
with a team-high 14 points.
The victory moves
Piedmont to 12-10 overall and 2-3 in the Great South Athletic Conference
as the Lions will return to action on Sunday, February 11th with conference
road game at regionally-ranked Maryville College.
