Women's Basketball Team Wins Fifth Straight
With a stingy defense that allowed a mere 18 baskets from the field,
the Piedmont College women's basketball team extended its winning streak
to five with a 69-38 victory over Great South Athletic Conference host
Spelman College tonight in Atlanta, GA. The Lady Lions utilized their
entire bench with 11 players notching points and every player recording
at least five minutes of action.
PC opened the game
on a remarkable 21-0 run and extended their lead to as many as 23 before
entering the half with a comfortable 39-17 lead. At the start of the
second half the Lady Lions went on a 22-5 run and cruised to the finish
line, ending the game with a 31-point advantage.
Sarah Lane led the
Lions with 10 points and a team-high three assists. Yetta Bailey narrowly
missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds while Nikki
Sosebee added eight points and seven rebounds. Ashley Covington led
Spelman with a game-high 15 points.
The victory moves
PC to 14-6 overall and 8-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The
women will look to extend their winning streak to six games on Wednesday,
February 7th as they host the team that gave them their only conference
loss of the season in Huntingdon College beginning at 6:00 in Cave Arena.
