Women's Basketball Team Throttles Hollins 87-33
In its second game
in as many days, the Piedmont College women's basketball team made it
a perfect 2-0 road trip through Roanoke, VA with an 87-33 non-conference
victory over Hollins University this evening. The Lady Lions dominated
every facet of the game including shooting percentage (41%-23%), rebounds
(60-32) and turnovers (13-26).
The victory improves
PC to 12-6 overall and marks the Lady Lions' third consecutive road
victory. After a 1-3 start to the season, Piedmont has won 11 of its
last 14 games. The women will return to action again on Saturday, February
3rd as they host Great South Athletic Conference opponent LaGrange College
in Cave Arena beginning at 2:00.
After the first
five minutes the Lady Lions held a slim 6-5 lead but proceeded to go
on a 28-0 run before Hollins could record their next basket. Piedmont
extended their lead to 47-11 entering the half and led by as many as
56 before the final score of 87-33.
Emily Woodward led
three Lady Lions in double figures with a game-high 16 points including
four three-pointers. Stephanie Rainwater tallied 15 points and a game-high
six assists while Sheena Trimiar added 12 points. Mandy Beasley chipped
in defensively with a game-high six steals and seven rebounds.
