Dismal Shooting Performance Ends In Lions’ Biggest Loss Of The
Season
The Piedmont College men’s basketball team put
together its worst shooting performance of the season tonight as the
Lions dropped a 71-55 non-conference road game at Methodist University
in Fayetteville, NC. Piedmont was 2-22 (9%) from behind the three-point
line and committed 17 turnovers as the team falls to 7-8 overall on
the season after producing the lowest point total of the season.
Piedmont started
the game slowly connecting on just 31% of its first-half shots including
0-11 from three-point land as the Lions trailed 33-23 at intermission.
Piedmont would show some spark to open the second half and cut the Monarchs’
lead to five, but MU responded with an 11-2 run over the next five minutes
to jump ahead by fourteen and keep PC at bay for the remainder of the
contest.
Jake Baldwin led all scorers with a game-high 17 points
to go along with a season-best 18 rebounds. Teammates Jake Green and
Tyler Whitlock added 16 and 11 points respectively with Green dishing
out a game-high nine assists.
Methodist placed five players in double-figures as Adrian
Bascom (15 points and 10 rebounds) and Antwin Shuford (13 points and
11 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles.
With the loss the Lions and Monarchs split the season
series with both team winning on their respective home court.
Piedmont will return to action on Thursday, January
18th with a non-conference home game versus Atlanta Christian College
with tip off set for 7:00 in PC’s Cave Arena.
