Lady Lions Remain Perfect In Conference Play With 73-63 Home Win Over
Maryville
This afternoon the Piedmont College women's basketball team defeated
visiting defending Great South Athletic Conference champion Maryville
College by the score of 73-63 in PC's Cave Arena. The Lady Lions shot
an impressive 43% from the field and held the Scots to a mere 32% to
cruise to the 10-point victory.
Maryville jumped
out to an early lead with a 7-0 run to start the game. Piedmont answered
and took the lead for good at the 8th minute. After entering the half
with an eight-point lead the Lady Lions extended it to 19 with ten minutes
to go in the game. MC rallied to get within six points but Nikki Sosebee
knocked down four straight free throws to ice the big victory.
Sosebee led three
Lady Lions in double-figures with her third double-double of the season
of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Yetta Bailey and Sarah Lane chipped in
with 15 points apiece while Kayla Duncan notched nine points and eight
rebounds.
Piedmont's last
victory against Maryville came in the 2004-2005 campaign when the late
PC head coach Charles Cooper recorded his 1,000th victory in the Johnny
Mize Athletic Center.
The victory moves
PC to 7-4 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
The women will return to the court again on Wednesday, January 10th
as they travel to GSAC foe Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL with
tip off slated for 6:00 CST.
