Women's Basketball Team Remains Perfect In GSAC With Win Over Spelman
The Piedmont College women's basketball team remained undefeated in
Great South Athletic Conference play with a 73-61 win over visiting
Spelman College tonight in Cave Arena. With a slim 48-43 lead with eight
minutes to go, the Lady Lions went on a 25-18 run to close the game
and earn the convincing league victory.
The Lady Lions never
trailed but were forced to fend off a hard charging Jaguars team in
the second half. SC was led by Kelli Haywood who recorded a game-high
25 points, 18 of which came in the second half.
Sarah Lane led Piedmont
with a team-high 16 points which included a pair of three-pointers and
a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. Yetta Bailey notched her second
double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Nikki Sosebee
narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 13
rebounds while Sheena Trimiar added a game-high three steals.
The victory moves
Piedmont to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
The women will take the court again on Sunday, January 7th as they host
GSAC foe Maryville College with tip-off slated for 2:00.
