Piedmont Earns 76-68 Road Win
At NAIA Flagler
Nikki Sosebee recorded a double-double
with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Piedmont College to a 76-68 non-conference
win over host Flagler College in a women’s basketball game Sunday
afternoon at Flagler Gym in St. Augustine, FL.
Sheena Trimiar added 14 points and seven
rebounds while Kayla Duncan chipped in with 13 points, six assists and
five rebounds coming off the bench for Piedmont. Beth Adcock tallied
10 points and five rebounds for the Lady Lions.
Piedmont ran out to a 27-12 lead and led
by as many as 16 in the opening half. The Lady Lions forced nine turnovers
and converted them into 15 points. Piedmont went into the break with
a 38-25 lead.
Stephanie Rainwater’s 3-pointer
with 17:38 left in regulation gave the Lady Lions their biggest lead,
45-27, but the Lady Saints rallied back. Flagler went on a 9-2 run to
cut the deficit to 11 after an Alicia Ramsdell layup, and then converted
the three-point play on her free throw. Piedmont countered with a 10-4
run to push the lead back to 17.
The Lady Saints made another valiant run
at the end, going on a 13-6 run to cut the gap to just nine points with
just over five minutes to go. That would be a close as Flagler could
until Ramsdell hit a running jumper with 14 seconds left for the final
score of 76-68.
The victory sends the Lady Lions into
the Christmas break with a 6-3 overall record. Piedmont will return
to action on January 4th when the Lady Lions travel to Atlanta, GA to
take on Great South Athletic Conference foe Spelman College.
