Piedmont College Athletic Department Hosts Symposium

The Piedmont College Department of Athletics hosted a student-athlete symposium this afternoon in the Student Center featuring a quesiton and answer segment with a panel of guests highlighted by Florida Marlins Assistant General Manager Mike Hill.

The afternoon consisted of discussion on current hot topics in collegiate and professional athletics ranging from the student-athlete academic dynamic to controversial topics in professional athletics such at steroids in baseball.

A former football and baseball captain for the Harvard Crimson, Hill is on the fast track to upper managment in professional baseball. In eight years, he has advanced from a scout in the Tampa Devil Rays' organization to a director of player development with the Colorado Rockies to assistant general manager with the Florida Marlins.

Joining Hill on the symposium panel was PC Athletic Director John Dzik, faculty member Dr. Deb Dooley, and faculty athletic representative Dr. Ken Melichar. The discussion was moderated by baseball player Zack Thompson.


Following the symposium the meeting moved to Java Station in Demorest where Hill greeted Piedmont student-athletes in a more personal setting.
