Men's
Soccer Falls To Nationally-Ranked Emory University 6-0
The
Piedmont Colleg men's soccer team fell to Emory University, nationally
ranked #11, today on Walker Field by the score of 6-0. The match marked
the final regular-season home contest for the Lions.
Senior Diego Montoya (pictured) was recognized
before the start of the match for his four years of service to the PC
men's soccer team. During Montoya's four years the Lions earned three
Great South Athletic Conference championships and reached the NCAA Division-III
postseason Sweet 16 in 2003 the first year of the program's eligibility.
After dropping a goal in the first half
PC was unable to answer in the second half as Emory tacked on five goals.
The Lions were outshot 15-8 and out corner kicked 8-2.
Patrick Ratigan recorded nine saves between
the posts and Drew Griffin led PC with three shots on goal.
The loss drops the Lions to 9-8 overall.
PC will return to action again on Tuesday, November 1st as they compete
in the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals and hope to advance
to the GSAC finals on Saturday, November 5th.
