Men's Soccer Edges Huntingdon College 3-2
The Piedmont College men's soccer team
defeated Great South Athletic Conference opponent Huntingdon College
on Walker Field tonight by the score of 3-2. The victory secures the
Lions a second-place finish in the GSAC regular-season.
Jake Kreiger netted the first goal for
PC at the 12:00 mark on an assist from Paul Mitchell. George Sandi scored
an unassisted goal in which he beat three defenders just two minutes
later.
After Huntingdon answered with a goal
at the 36:00 mark, Drew Griffin earned the eventual game-winner on an
unassisted goal at the 43:00 mark. Despite a goal by the opposition
at the 87:00 mark, Huntingdon was unable to find the equalizer and PC
walked away with the victory.
The win moves PC to 9-7 overall and 6-2
in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions have clinched a second
place finish for the regular season of the GSAC and will be the #2 seed
in the upcoming Great South Athletic Conference tournament.
PC returns to action again on Saturday,
October 22nd for their final home match of the season when the Lions
play host to Emory University. Diego Montoya, the lone senior, will
be recognized prior to the start of the game for his four years of service
to the men's soccer program.
